Nippon Steel wants to be the world’s best steelmaker, but the path it is following in Japan and the United States is locking in the worst way of making it: with coal. This multimedia project with SteelWatch uses double exposure composite photography, environmental documentation, and drone imagery to explore the problems Nippon Steel’s use of coal in blast furnaces is causing across the Chiba peninsula.
